Kong Extreme
Made specifically for the hardiest of chewers, the KONG Extreme represents the most durable version of the original KONG toy. The ultra-strong, ultra-durable, black rubber compound is recommended for the most powerful chewers. Perfect for stuffing treats, this engaging feeding toy helps to reduce boredom and separation anxiety as well as having an unpredictable bounce for games of fetch.
We recommend following the details below to get the most out of your Kong dog toy as most dogs need to learn to use them. Follow these steps to ensure your dog knows how to enjoy all the benefits of this popular toy.
1. Choose the correct size
It’s important to use the right size Kong so that your dog can have the safest, most enjoyable experience. When in doubt size up for the safest option.
2. Engage with your pup to ensure success
Get your dog excited about their new toy. Show it off and talk about it excitedly; maybe even play a little hard-to-get to pique their interest and show them what their new toy can do.
3. Stuff with treats of food to entice and extend playtime
Many dogs are motivated by food and Kong toys are perfect for stuffing with treats or kibble to keep dogs busy. The key is to begin with stuffing it loosely so that the dogs are rewarded when the food comes out of the toy easily. To further entice your dog, try using a little bit of peanut butter, cream cheese or their favourite treat in the Kong.
4. Freeze for a longer lasting and greater challenge
Over time, your dog will learn how to get treats out of the Kong quickly. To increase the challenge, put together a mixture of wet and dry ingredients, stuff the Kong and freeze it. A frozen Kong heightens the experience by creating a long-lasting, mentally stimulating task. This also provides added relief for teething dogs.
CARE:
Even the most talented dogs may leave a bit of food at the bottom of their KONG. Don’t worry, cleaning the toys is easy. We recommend the Kong Cleaning Brush as an essential tool.
- Rinse with warm water and dish soap
- If stubborn treats, like dried peanut butter, don't rinse out, try soaking in warm water and dish soap to loosen the leftovers.
- Use a Kong Brush or old tooth brush to scrub the inside of the Kong.
- Be sure to rinse thoroughly.
- All Kong Rubber toys are top-rack dishwasher safe. Make sure to skip the drying cycle as excess heat can damage the toy.
Pro Tip: A chopstick can also be a handy tool for poking out any treats that are stuck in the Kong's opening. It's a good idea to keep a few extra stuffed Kongs in the freezer so you always have one on hand even if the dishwasher is running.
